From the villages of Shandong, Hebei, and Henan, many styles mixed and blended.

After 19 years of training, exploring and deepening my skills, I resolved to create a new system as many others have done before me. It involved the distillation, re-organization, and streamlining of the fighting skills and teaching methodologies I learned.

With your skills successfully displayed in sparring, you will proceed.

The "blood is dried" and you are seasoned. Now it is time to properly learn the methods of 螳螂拳 Mantis Boxing. Upon your 彈腿長拳 Long Fist base we will develop your ability to bridge the arms and clinch fight, using Mantis Boxing's signature 螳螂捕蟬 Mantis Catches Cicada method. Short strikes, elbows, knees, catching joints, and throwing are all used to destroy the opponent in-close.
Alongside the clinch-fighting of Mantis Boxing, you will learn the 劍法 sword, and the ability to draw and cut, to un-hand attackers, and clash, bind, and control enemy weapons to finish with a cut or thrust.
In order to progress to the next stage, you must enter and win a fighting competition.

Your belt is now black, you have proven yourself and you're a capable martial artist. At this point you are guided to deepen your personal abilities and style. Thus you begin learning the last form of the system: 分身八肘 Separating the Body into 8 Elbows, an exercise in both strategy and flow state. Your abilities in self-defense will also be fortified.
Additionally, you will begin to teach and demonstrate the ability to transmit the skills and the martial culture of this system.

You have now earned the black-and-gold of 快跤螳螂拳 Kuài jiāo Tángláng Quán. You will gain a Certification of Mastery, and be recognized as an official representative and instructor of this system. You will be gifted the 快跤螳螂拳譜 Swift Throw Mantis Boxing Manual. With great respect and gratitude I will have you registered as a part of this lineage.

This path is not for everyone
Of those interested, only some are selected.
Below you can apply to be an apprentice. You will be interviewed and your intentions will be carefully considered. If you are accepted then you will be given access to all the learning modules at a reduced cost. Some of the courses are publicly available, others are exclusively reserved for apprentices.
There are no secrets here, only the skills that I would teach anyone, and the skills which I reserve for my own people. The traditional Chinese martial arts are treated like the trade skills of any craft in that there is a 師父 Shīfu (Master) and 徒弟 Túdì (Apprentice) relationship. If selected, you will 拜師 bàishī, which is a ceremony to formally become an apprentice to a master, and be accepted.

Where general classes and online courses are meant to give the learner skills in a manner both efficient and engaging, apprentices shoulder a greater responsibility. You are not only learning to fight, you must learn to teach, you must learn to embody a martial culture, you must be challenged in combat, and you must temper and forge oneself into a Mantis Boxer. Through this journey you will have my guidance.
Should you succeed, you will gain a Certification of Mastery, have the honor of wearing the Black Belt with a Gold stripe, and be recognized as an official representative and instructor of 快跤螳螂拳 Kuài jiāo Tángláng Quán.
